Lentera Takjub – Amid the bustling crowds of Jerusalem, filled with pilgrims from near and far, a small family was overcome with worry. Joseph and Mary, loving and devoted parents, had just realized their twelve-year-old son was missing.
They searched everywhere, asking relatives and fellow travelers, but Jesus was nowhere to be found. Three days of anguish would soon lead to a revelation that would change everything.
The Journey to Jerusalem
As devout Jews, Joseph and Mary made their yearly pilgrimage to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. The city was alive with thousands of worshippers, all gathered to offer sacrifices and give thanks to God.
For Jesus, however, this journey meant something far greater. While others focused on the rituals, His heart was drawn toward something deeper—the Temple, His Father’s house.
The Missing Child
When the festival ended, the caravan from Nazareth began its return home. Assuming that Jesus was somewhere among their relatives and friends, Joseph and Mary traveled a full day before realizing He was not with them.
Fear gripped Mary’s heart. “Joseph, we must go back!” she said, her voice trembling.
Without hesitation, they turned around, retracing their steps toward Jerusalem. They searched every street, spoke to countless people, but no one had seen Him.
Found in the Temple
After three days of desperate searching, they found Him at last—inside the Temple.
There He sat, surrounded by the teachers of the Law, listening intently and asking questions that left the scholars in awe. His understanding and wisdom were beyond His years.
“Son, why have You done this to us? Your father and I have been searching for You in great distress!” Mary cried, her eyes filled with relief and tears.
Jesus looked at her with a calm certainty. “Why were you searching for Me? Did you not know that I must be in My Father’s house?”
His words stirred something deep within Mary and Joseph. Though they did not fully understand His meaning, Mary held onto them, treasuring them in her heart.
Returning to Nazareth
After that moment, Jesus returned home with His parents, living in obedience to them. Though He was still a child, the wisdom He had shared in the Temple and the way He had spoken of His Father signified the beginning of something greater.
The people of Nazareth may not have realized it, but one day, this Boy whom they searched for in Jerusalem would become the One the whole world would seek.
